Full-Time Traffic Engineer

DESCRIPTION

For entry-level candidates, a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field is required, with a preference toward candidates with courses focused on Traffic Engineering, Transportation Planning, and/or Highway Design.

The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of MicroStation (or similar Computer Aided Drafting or CAD program), AutoTurn, HCS, and Synchro software. Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel is required. Experience working on traffic engineering projects for the Maryland Department of Transportation, State Highway Administration (MDOT- SHA) is a plus. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.

EIT certification with ability to obtain PE licensure is preferred for all candidates.

The duties of the position include completing design and analysis tasks for traffic and transportation design and operations projects, at the direction of a project manager. The ideal candidate will aid in the development of traffic control device design plans, including traffic signal, signing, pavement marking, lighting and ITS plans. The position requires extensive use of MicroStation software and may require the use of traffic analysis software such as Synchro/SimTraffic. Additional responsibilities may include performing field duties outside of the office in support of projects, including traffic data collection and field verifications of existing and proposed traffic control device installations. DESCRIPTION

Interns will collaborate directly with LTC’s experienced senior traffic engineers to complete design and analysis tasks for traffic and transportation design and operations projects. This position offers opportunities to gain experience in a wide variety of traffic engineering disciplines, including drafting traffic plans using industry-standard CAD software, fieldwork studies to support the development of proposed traffic control devices, traffic data collection, and preparation of cost estimates to accompany traffic plans. Interns will aid in the development of traffic control device design plans, including traffic signal, signing, pavement marking, lighting and ITS plans. Interns will learn the intricacies of working with government agencies such as the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT-SHA) and other county-level regulatory agencies.

The ideal candidate will be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field, with a preference toward candidates taking courses focused on Traffic Engineering, Transportation Planning, and/or Highway Design. Candidates should be detail-oriented, self-motivated, and have strong communication skills. Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.) is expected. Candidates should be available to work approximately 40 hours per week for the duration of the internship. Internship start and end dates are flexible.
